Hinchinbrook Island NP

The jewel of this region is undoubtedly the Hinchinbrook Channel and Hinchinbrook Island, the world's largest national park island and home of the internationally acclaimed "Thorsborne Trail".  Hinchinbrook Island is surrounded by marine park waters and there are plenty of beautiful fringing reefs and seagrass beds which are home to a variety of animal life.

Things to do

There is a 32km trail for experienced bushwalkers, along the island’s east coast. Limited spots are available, so please book.

Camp sites and amenities are available.

Please wear a hat and sunscreen and take plenty of drinking water. Please stay on the walking tracks and be aware of loose rocks & vegetation around you.

Walking in the mountains is by special permit only. The Thorsborne Trail is not graded, but provides experienced hikers a excellent experience. Allow at least three nights to do this walk.

Getting There

Hinchinbrook Island lies off the north Queensland coast just 8km east of Cardwell. Commercial water taxis from Port Hinchinbrook, Cardwell and Dungeness (Lucinda) transfer campers and walkers to the island.
