Edmund Kennedy NP

This section of coastline has changed little since explorer Edmund Kennedy passed this way during his ill-fated expedition to Cape York in 1848.

Edmund Kennedy National Park, named after the famous explorer & located in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, has a wide variety of vegetation including lowland rainforest and extensive mangrove forests of which most species are only found in this park.

Things to do

Go birdwatching or have a picnic at Rockingham Bay.  There is a magnificant view of 13 of the islands based off the coast.  There are also a series of walking tracks in the park.

Please wear a hat and sunscreen and take plenty of drinking water. Please stay on the walking tracks and be aware of loose rocks & vegetation around you.

Camping is not allowed in the park, but accommodation is available at the caravan park opposite the park entrance or in Cardwell.

Accessibility

There are wheelchair accessible amenities.

Getting There

Turn off the Bruce Highway 4km north of Cardwell and drive 1km to the park entrance and a further 1km to the ranger station.
