General Comments Experience Required - Even though you do not need a boat licence under Queensland bareboat regulations, you are required to have previous experience at the helm of a vessel similar to the vessel you would like to hire. The booking sheet has an experience questionnaire and a Tropic Sail skipper will contact you to discuss your skill levels in further detail before your booking is confirmed.

Skipper/Sail Guide - If you need or would like a skipper on board for your charter this can be arranged and start from AUD300.00 for half a day.
How to get There Tropic Sail's office and vessels are located at Breakwater Marina, Mariners Drive on the beautiful Townsville Strand; only 10 minutes from the Airport and within walking distance to shops, restaurants and cafes, pubs and city attractions such as Reef Headquarters, Imax, Museum of Tropical North Queensland, The Cultural Centre, Jupiters Casino and Strand Water Park.

Tropic Sail will personally pick up groups of four or less people or private transfers can be arranged if you are arriving by air, bus or train. If you are arriving by car please contact them for a detailed city map and to arrange free car parking at Breakwater Marina whilst on charter.

Airport Transfers - pick up and drop offs are available free for four people or less; or if a greater number, private transfers can be arranged.
Service Facilities All Tropic Sail vessels are equipped with standard safety equipment in accordance with Maritime Safety Queensland including Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) and radios, Global Positioning System (GPS) is available for hire and should be pre-booked.
Tariff Text Reservation conditions - Your booking is confirmed upon payment of AUD500.00 deposit and receipt of the booking form. The charter balance is then due 60 days prior to charter commencement or immediately if your booking is made less than 60 days prior to departure.

Rates - Per vessel rate is per night and does not include fuel, gas, damage waiver insurance, government environmental charges (EMC) and optional extras such as relocation fees, skipper/sail guide and pre or post charter marina nights. Please contact Tropic Sail for a detailed quote.
Cancellation Policy Cancellation prior to full payment will result in the full deposit being forfeited. If cancellation after full payment has been made, client is liable for full payment unless another charter can be found for that period. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
Entity Restrictions Tropic Sail's bareboat charters are limited to areas defined by the Queensland Department of Transport. This area includes the northern tip of Cape Cleveland, around Magnetic Island, and the inside waters (western side) of the islands of The Palms group to the tip of Pelorus Island.
General Comments Standard boarding time is between 9.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m., followed by a comprehensive two to three hour vessel and area briefing. Pre-charter marina nights can be provided if arriving the day before and earlier briefing times can be arranged upon request. These are subject to vessel and staff availability please ask at time of enquiry or booking.

General Comments Tropic Sail is locally owned and operated and prides itself on providing personalised service in the way of airport transfers, local provisioning, pre and post charter accommodation and activity bookings, water sports equipment hire and so on. Tropic Sail is also a formally recognised Yachting Australia Training Centre offering sailing courses, yacht deliveries and racing regattas.

Departures - Charters depart from the Breakwater Marina in Townsville. Vessel collection can also be arranged from Magnetic Island, Orpheus Island and Great Palm Island for all those short on time or wishing to journey only one way - these prices can be found on the operator's web site.
General Comments Rental Period - Rental period is based on 24 hour rentals. There is a three night minimum in low season, four night minimum in shoulder season and a five night minimum in peak season. Shorter rentals are available on standby (five nights or less in peak season and seven nights or less in low and shoulder seasons). Please contact Tropic Sail for a quote.

Insurance - A damage waiver fee is payable on a per day, per vessel basis and covers minor damage to vessel and/or loss of equipment. Bareboat Liability Insurance can be taken out separately to cover for Third Party Property Damage. Personal Travel Insurance is highly recommended to cover any unforeseen circumstances.

Remote Area Relocation - Tropic Sail can arrange one way or return transfers to or from Orpheus Island or Great Palm Island with regular daily flights out of or into either Townsville or Cairns. Please contact Tropic Sail for a comprehensive quote.

Vessel Returns - Return of the vessel is by 12.00 p.m. on final day, unless other arrangements are made in advance. Fuel and gas is not included in your charter quote and is payable on return of vessel.
