Thuringowa

Rivers, rainforests, mountains and beaches?.

The city of Thuringowa lies adjacent to Townsville city, and although the urban sprawl makes the two blend seamlessly into one, the visitor experience is quite different.

Thuringowa is a growing, urban centre surrounded by beaches, rivers, rainforest pockets, rural expanse and mountainous regions.

The city centre is a modern hub offering restaurants, cinemas, shopping centres, business and medical services, parks and recreational facilities. The residential areas of Thuringowa begin in this central business district and continue north through the Northern Beaches district ? which the locals share with day visitors, campers, caravan and motorhome travellers.

The Northern Beaches region extends from Bushland Beach and Bluewater to Balgal Beach, Saunders Beach and Rollingstone with long stretches of clean beachfront framed by natural bushlands.

For nature enthusiasts and ‘eco-tourists’, Thuringowa offers a feast of natural and diverse environments, flora, fauna and eco-friendly, sustainable recreational activities.

Riverway - North Queensland's newest waterfront development

Located in Thuringowa on the magnificent Ross River frontage, Riverway is fast becoming one of the most exciting destinations the region has to offer. Riverway offers a dynamic combination of residential, commercial, cultural, sports and leisure activities.

Stretching along 11 kilometres of the Ross River from Black Weir to the Dam, Riverway opens the river for greater access for both residents and visitors, while still protecting and enhancing its natural beauty. With two huge swimming lagoons, the Riverway Arts Centre, Pinnacles Gallery, the Riverwalk, public art, village spine and parklands, there is so much to explore.

Riverway was conceived by Thuringowa City Council as a standard of ecological sensitivity and river management, while providing an exciting environment for the city’s young and expanding community to enjoy a variety of water-based and waterfront activities.

The performance space in the Riverway Arts Centre can facilitate a variety of events for up to 380 people, while the Pinnacles Gallery is the place to see all the latest cultural activities, with the best of local and national exhibitions. The Amphitheatre comfortably accommodates events for up to 1500 people and provides the perfect outdoor atmosphere on the picturesque Ross River .

No family day out is complete without a barbeque and a cool dip in the lagoons amongst the spacious, tranquil grounds of Riverway or even a stroll along the bike path extending along the banks of the Ross River. That’s not to mention the abundance of free public events held Riverway including River Festival, New Years Eve celebrations, Australia Day, Pool Parties, the Festival of Learning and much more!

The facilities of Riverway are constantly growing and changing, with three more stages of development on the way. For the thrills of high level competition, you won’t want to miss the events at Riverway stadium, set to open mid 2007. Boasting a capacity of 10,000 people, the facility will attract AFL and Cricket competitions at national level.

More adventure is still to come at Riverway with the Itara residential and River Village precincts to bring a whole new shopping, dining and residential experience to the youthful heart of Riverway.
