Paul Mercurio

North Queensland flavours Mercurio

Following the success of Paul Mercurio’s Food Trails, cast and crew from Mercurio’s Menu were recently filming episode 13 in Townsville.

The 13 part series follows Paul Mercurio, (Strictly Ballroom & Dancing with the Stars) as he discovers some of Australia’s best foods. The Mercurio’s Menu episode will feature some of the Townsville Region’s finest produce, with Mercurio sampling Townsville’s local brew, cooking Barramundi and Prawns, tasting tropical fruits such as Black Sapote, Jack Fruit, Custard Apples, Paw Paws and Passion fruit. He even explores the north’s own Red Claw racing.

Highlights from the show include:

  • Townsville Barramundi Farm, which farms some of the most sought after fish in the region
  • Views across Cleveland bay to Magnetic Island from the Watermark Restaurant
  • Sampling some award winning ales at the Townsville Brewery
  • Tast Testing Frosty Mango’s famous tropical fruit ice creams
  • Crystal Bay an environmentally friendly prawn farm set alongside Australia’s largest National Park Island - Hinchinbrook
  • Barefoot Art, Food and Wine on Magnetic Island
  • Italian cooking in Ayr - Australia’s biggest cane producing area

The week long filming took place in Townsville, on Magnetic Island and along the Great Green Way to Cardwell. Channel 7 plans to broadcast the Townsville episode to the nation in June.

When asked about coming to Townsville to film the episode, Paul Mercurio said he was eager to hang out with the locals and cook up a feast fit for a king.

"It’s great to finally get to Townsville. I have always wanted to see the region, and I’m really looking forward to the week ahead. I can’t wait to get to know the place, meet the people and see the produce on offer." Mr Mercurio said.
